Ol' Blue, USA and WBKO - TV Safety Video

Linked above is a public safety television message dealing safety around large vehicles.

The 30-second video “spot” was developed by WBKO television’s Cliff Cothern, writer/producer, and Tammy Martin, public relations director, in association with Ol' Blue, USA, a non-profit public charity dedicated to educating the nation on highway safety and provides free safety programs at community events, public schools, and truck shows.

WBKO, Channel 13, is the ABC affiliate in Bowling Green, KY. Helping with the production of the video were Lt. Glynn Powers and Officer Jeff Jewell with Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement and Beverly Steele with Ol' Blue, USA. The message began airing in August 2004.

Living for the Long Haul
By Barbara Clements, Reporter for the Tacoma News Tribune.
Few drivers are neutral about long-haul truckers. They are blessed as saviors when they stop to help, or cursed as bullies when they seem intent on blowing you off the road. Despite the current economic slump, tighter regulations and a continuing shortage of drivers, the big rigs are far from an endangered species. Some 3.1 million truck drivers — sitting behind the wheels of everything from delivery vans to massive 18-wheelers — deliver about 80 percent of the freight in United States. This spring, The News Tribune decided to get a view of the road from six feet up, in the cab of a semi-truck.

Hooray for a Trucker's Rolling Blockade
Bob Levey of the Washington Post provides a humorous look at the truckers who prevent hot-rodders from making last-minute merges in construction zones.
